Caribbean-born French Pointillist/Impressionist Painter, ca.1830-1903 .Painter and printmaker. He was the only painter to exhibit in all eight of the Impressionist exhibitions held between 1874 and 1886, and he is often regarded as the 'father' of the movement. He was by no means narrow in outlook, however, and throughout his life remained as radical in artistic matters as he was in politics. Thad?e Natanson wrote in 1948: 'Nothing of novelty or of excellence appeared that Pissarro had not been among the first, if not the very first, to discern and to defend.' The significance of Pissarro's work is in the balance maintained between tradition and the avant-garde. Octave Mirbeau commented: 'M. Carlo Innocenzo Carlone
(1686-1775) was an Italian painter and engraver, active especially in Germany. He was a native of Scaria, near Como, in Lombardy, but may have been from the Carloni family of Genoese painters. He was the son of a sculptor, but he preferred painting, and was placed under the care of Giulio Quaglio. He afterwards studied at Venice and at Rome, until he was 23 years of age, when he visited Germany, where he has left works in oil and in fresco at Ludwigsburg, Passau, Linz, Breslau, Prague, and Vienna. He painted large decorative fresco cycles for palaces in Vienna, Prague and Southern Germany. For example, Carlone is known for painting the ceiling images in the Upper Belvedere of the Belvedere palace complex. His The Glorification of Saints Felix and Adauctus (1759-61) was commissioned for the cupola of the church of San Felice del Benaco on Lake Garda. He died at Como.
Etienne Aubry
Etienne Aubry, who was born at Versailles in 1746, studied under J. A. Silvestre and Joseph Vien, and soon became noted for his portraits and genre subjects. He exhibited several works of great merit at the Salon; but his life was cut short in its prime in 1781, in which year he had exhibited the 'Parting of Coriolanus from his Wife.'
Gustaf Fjaestad
Swedish 1868-1948 Swedish painter, printmaker and designer. He trained at the Royal Academy of Arts in Stockholm in 1891-2. Subsequently he studied with Bruno Liljefors and Carl Larsson, assisting them with such decorative schemes as Larsson's fresco at the Nationalmuseum, Stockholm (1896). In 1897 he moved to the Arvika district of V?rmland, where he worked together with his wife, Maja (1873-1961), as painter, craftsman and cabinetmaker, and gathered around him a circle of artists who became known as the Racken group. He first achieved public recognition at the Stockholm Artists Union exhibition in 1898 with some of his snow landscapes, which were an immediate popular success and were often reproduced. He had his first one-man exhibition in Stockholm in 1908,
